To encourage:
more environmental research
effective partnerships in conducting this research
To aid in the establishment of national priorities for environmental research
in transportation for the next several years
To assist the Office of Environment and Planning of FHWA in the development
of their long range (3-5 year) strategic environmental research program
The participants generated 96 detailed problem statements in twelve topic areas.

the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO),
the Environmental Protection Agency, and
three additional Federal agencies
The conference proceedings have been published by the TRB in March 1997 as Circular Number 469. The document has been provided to all conference participants and is being shared with state transportation agencies, environmental research groups, universities and other partners.
