Tribal Road Safety Audit Case Studies
A road safety audit (RSA) is a formal safety performance examination by an independent, multidisciplinary team. RSAs are an effective tool for proactively improving the safety performance of a road project during the planning and design stages, and for identifying safety issues on existing transportation facilities. The Federal Highway Administration with the help of the Tribal Technical Assistance Program provides technical assistance and training to help tribes conduct RSAs.
In an effort to promote the benefits of RSAs on tribal lands, FHWA conducted RSAs with the following tribes: the Standing Rock Sioux, Jemez Pueblo, Navajo Nation, and Santa Clara Pueblo.
