Course Title: Expert Witness Case Study Course Number: N/A Sponsoring Organization: Florida Department of Transportation Course Description: The aim of this course is to teach practical skills that can make an expert witness more effective in the courtroom environment. The course is taught by both Department attorneys and appraisers. The problems faced by the expert witness are analyzed through simulations based on an actual case.
Target Audience: Entry-level eminent domain attorneys, senior acquisition agents, and appraisers
Attendance Restrictions: Maximum class size is 30.

Course Title: Title/Settlement Process Course Number: N/A Sponsoring Organization: Maryland State Department of Transportation Course Description:Participants will perfect skills in examination of title for good and marketable conveyances to State, develop confidence in ability to spot problems or concerns that may have been missed, and learn how to do bring-to-dates. Topics include examination of title abstract; updates (bring-to-dates); review of rules and regulations of real property laws; land records court dockets; judgment records; corporate, partnership records; register of wills; and open discussion of above and requirements of various counties as to recordation process. Participants will visit the courthouse to get hands-on training. Settlement Process:Participants will learn about the final acquisition process, deed of conveyances to State free of liens and encumbrances, real property law, and obtaining good title. Topics include update of title, release of liens, and settlement process/paperwork.
Target Audience: Anyone with some type of real estate experience
Attendance Restrictions: Some experience in reading deeds is required. Maximum class size is 20.
