TEA-21 ONE-DOT Conference on the
National Corridor Planning and Development Program and the Coordinated Border Infrastructure Program

TEA-21 ONE-DOT Conferences

The U.S. Department of Transportation will hold two outreach sessions on two new programs established by the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) -- the National Corridor Planning and Development Program and the Coordinated Border Infrastructure Program. The one-day sessions will be held in San Diego, CA on August 25th and in Detroit, MI on August 27th.

The two discretionary programs are supported with a single funding source of $140 million annually, FY 1999 - 2003. The Federal share for eligible activities is 80 percent. Under the corridor program, funds are available to States and metropolitan planning organizations for coordinated planning, design, and construction of high priority corridors and other significant corridors selected by the Secretary. Under the border program, funds are available to border States and MPOs for projects to improve the safe movement of people and goods at or across the United States’ borders with Canada and Mexico. Up to $10 million may be transferred to the General Services Administration for law enforcement infrastructure.

The Federal Highway Administration has lead responsibility for the programs within DOT. The FHWA plans to solicit candidates for FY 1999 funding this fall and make selections in early 1999. The outreach sessions will provide an opportunity for members of the transportation community to offer suggestions on program implementation before FHWA issues guidelines on these two new programs.
The two ONE-DOT Conferences are part of a series of outreach sessions DOT is holding around the county on the implementation of TEA-21.
