TITLE: Memorandum of Understanding between United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service and United States Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration regarding the Appropriation and Transfer of National Forest System Lands for Highway Purposes

PURPOSE OF THE AGREEMENT: Both agencies recognize the need for streamlined, nationally consistent procedures by which the FHWA may appropriate National Forest System lands for the use of Interstate and certain highways under 23 U.S.C. This MOU provides procedures to reduce the time and effort involved in processing Federal land transfers for public purposes, and includes measures to protect the public interest.
