Memorandum of Understanding

Region VI, National Highway Administration, and Oklahoma Division, Federal Highway Administration, upon due deliberation and consultation, hereby adopt the following programs as being of mutual benefits to the mission and goals of both agencies:

  1. Promote and implement Safe Communities programs and participate in coalitions at the local and community level.
  1. Seek opportunities for presentations about the Safe Community concept to engineering community and other nontraditional groups.
  1. Reach out to diverse communities by supporting appropriate initiatives such as the Transportation Summer Institute at Langston University.
  1. Work cooperatively with public and private partners to introduce the Division Safety Engineer to the traffic safety community in general, and to provide a broad base for the Engineer to build a professional rapport with peers and partner.
  1. Continue to build on partnership efforts to promote the use of occupant protection systems through the Buckle Up America campaign.
  1. Continue to use electronic Changeable Message Signs to broadcast driver safety focused messages to encourage use of seat belts during specified safety campaigns.

As partners in promoting the safe and efficient use of our roadways systems, we agree to pursue these and other worthwhile aims to the limit of our staff availability and resources.
