Message from the Chairman
Welcome to the Web Site of TRB Committee A2C02 - Steel Bridges.
The major activities of this committee are to Plan and organize the Annual Meeting Sessions, review papers, develop relevant research needs and coordinate with others to enhance the body of knowledge with regard to steel bridges. It also serves as a forum for practitioners and researchers to get together and develop an understanding of the true needs of those working in the steel bridge area.
The committee consists of 25 North American experts in this field together with 3 Non-North American experts and two under 30 year old interns. In addition, we currently have two honorary members Emeritus, Dr. Ivan M. Viest and Professor Dr. John W. Fisher.
There is a formal sub-committee, A2C02(1) Methods of Analyzing Steel Bridges, under the direction of Professor Dan Frangopol whose membership is not restricted, together with a list of many "Friends of the Committee". If you wish to participate with this committee, please contact Professor Karl Barth.
The term of membership is three years at which time one third of the members must be rotated off and replaced by new members. Membership must balance across the continent, and must balance between state employees, academics, industry and members of relevant associations.
Future members of the committee are drawn from the sub-committee and the list of "Friends of the Committee" that are active contributors to the committee. As a member of the "Friends of the Committee" you may be called upon to review papers, assist in the preparation of technical sessions for the annual meeting and act as a resource to the Committee. If you are interested in becoming a member of the "Friends of the Committee", please contact me at the below email address.
One of the missions of this committee is to promote future research in the area of steel bridges. As such, members are called upon annually to develop and propose research statements for consideration by AASHTO. Please see the section on research for further information.
