TRB AFF20 Committee on Steel Bridges
Goals of our committee
To keep the transportation community aware of current national/international research in all fields related to steel bridges in relation to design, rating and rehabilitation of steel bridges.
Sponsor and co-sponsor Symposia, Workshops and Specialty Sessions at the Annual TRB Meetings every year.
Sponsor/coordinate Workshops and Special Conferences such as the TRB International Bridge Conferences.
Encourage the writing and review of papers presented to TRB within the scope of the Committee Activities, and assist in publication of these papers in the Transportation Research Record.
To stimulate and synthesize research and technology transfer:
Define critical issues and research problems
Develop Research Needs Statements
Develop Manuals of Practice, State of the Art Reports, and other publications to facilitate implementation of research results.
Submit top priority research problem statements for NCHRP funding consideration, and arrange for AASHTO Support, and also recommend topics for NCHRP synthesis series in reference to Steel bridges that will assist in advancing the state of the art of bridge engineering technology.
To develop liaisons with related TRB Committees and other technical national/international societies to advance Committee goals and serve as a forum for information on the latest advances, developments and implementation of technology to Steel bridges. A2C02 has a liaison member on most of the other bridge related committees.
Involve international representatives on the Committee and promote an exchange of information between U.S. and foreign countries on general scope of A2C02. In 1999, the Committee was heavily involved with the International Bridge Conference which was subsequently held in Tampa, FA, April, 2000. Committee Member Dr. John Kulicki was a keynote speaker at that Conference. John's paper "The Once and Future Bridge" (5B-0136) was submitted as worthy of the K.B. Woods Award and was heartily endorsed by the committee.
