Skyway Portion of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge East Span Photo Gallery

The Skyway portion of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge East Span replacement project is 1.2 miles in length and is made up of 452 precast segments in two parallel bridges. The segments are being cast at the contractor's yard in Stockton, CA. They will be shipped by water from the Port of Stockton to the jobsite in San Francisco Bay. There are four casting beds at the yard to accommodate segments of various sizes. The long line beds (beds #1 and #2) can cast segments varying from 15.5 feet to 28 feet in depth and are track mounted and motorized to move so that nine segments can be cast end to end for match casting. The heaviest segment weighs 780 tons. The storage capacity of the yard is 177 segments.
