COLUMN AND BEAM WRAPPING

Effect of As-Built versus Retrofit

Schematic plot of probability of damage as a function of earthquake intensity for: minor damage; moderate damage; major damage, for both the as-built and retrofit cases. As-built shown with solid lines represent the "do nothing" solution. The dashed lines define performance in a retrofitted condition. This allows a determination to be made as to when retrofit is required as a function of the level of damage that is acceptable. Only the 2% EQ (probability of exceedance in 50 years or 2,500-year event) and 10% EQ (probability of exceedance in 50-years or 500 years event).
