Infrastructure & Technology Team
The Infrastructure and Technology Team works closely with the other teams in the office in support and delivery of the Federal-aid program. The Team is responsible for providing guidance on the programs to DelMar Division and its customers as well as performing design reviews and field inspections of the Federal-aid projects to ensure quality and compliance with Federal requirements. The team is also responsible for promoting the development and deployment of advanced technologies used in planning, design, construction, and maintenance of our transportation system. The Team is comprised of a team leader, who is personally responsible for division's research and technology deployment program, a Senior Bridge Engineer, a Bridge Engineer, and a Pavements/Materials Engineer. Individual responsibilities for each Specialist include:
- Team Leader - In addition to serving as the Infrastructure & Technology Team Leader and fulfilling its requirements and responsibilities, this position is responsible for handling all matters related to Division's research and technology deployment programs, including but not limited to working with States of MD & DE to develop their annual research programs, review and approve the annual programs, provide oversight for the annual programs, and lead efforts in deploying the "Market-Ready" as well as other technologies useful to MD and DE. Furthermore, the individual is responsible for reviewing/approving and providing oversight for annual programs of UTC's and LTAP technology transfer centers in MD and DE.
- Bridge Engineers - The Senior Bridge Engineer and Bridge Engineer handle all matters pertaining to design, construction, inspection and maintenance of bridges and structures including geotechnical and hydraulic aspects. They are responsible for administration of the Federal bridge programs and evaluation of their implementation by the States of MD and DE and the local governments. Programs include the Highway Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Program, National Bridge Inventory and Inspection Program and Innovative Bridge Research And Deployment Program among others. They provide guidance on federal regulations and policies. They exercise leadership by working with the State to achieve strategic objectives, implement new technologies and advance the programs. Both the Senior Bridge Engineer and Bridge Engineer work in both States providing stewardship and oversight of projects and programs. In addition, the Senior Bridge Engineer identifies yearly performance objectives, prioritizes activities, makes policy decisions and advises on significant or highly technical matters.
- Pavements/Materials Engineer - The pavements/Materials program contains five basic elements: Pavement Management System, Pavement Design, Materials, Preservation, and Construction. The Division Office Pavement/aterials Engineer handles all matters relating to design, construction, and inspection of pavements. This includes pavement management system, ride quality, and pavement maintenance. Additionally, this individual provides guidance on Federal regulations, policies, and procedures. The Materials Program is a shared function between the Pavements/Materials Engineer and the Division Bridge Engineer. The individuals are responsible for implementing QC/QA, promotion of high performance materials, and verification of compliance with materials related regulations.
