National Scenic Byways Program (NSBP)

Description: The National Scenic Byways Program (NSBP) recognizes roads having outstanding scenic, historic, cultural, natural, recreational, and archaeological qualities. NSBP funding supports projects that manage and protect these roads and improve visitor facilities.

Entities Eligible to Apply for Funding: States and Indian tribes are eligible to apply for funding under the NSBP.

AL Natchez Trace Parkway Rest Area at Colber Ferry This project will construct a visitor rest stop at the Colbert Ferry Site on the Natchez Trace Parkway. The Colbert Ferry Site provides recreational access to the Tennessee River and places to bike, hike, and camp. $148,000
AL Black Warrior River Scenic Byway Pedestrian and Bicycle Trail This project will construct a 12-foot-wide, asphalt-paved, shared-use pedestrian and bicycle trail along the Black Warrior River Scenic Byway in Tuscaloosa. $742,240
AR Crowley's Ridge Parkway and Great River Road Civil War Heritage Pedestrian Trail This project will provide trail design and construction as well as parking and traffic control improvements for a pedestrian trail that will connect five Civil War heritage sites with the Delta Cultural Center in Helena along the Crowley's Ridge Parkway and the Great River Road byways. It will benefit travelers by providing critical infrastructure improvements and increased walking safety. $402,610
AZ Swift Trail Parkway Signs This project will provide visitors with educational information about the Swift Trail corridor. $241,840
AZ Historic Route 66 Kingman Pedestrian Crossing This project will construct a pedestrian crossing, limit dangerous turning movements, improve signage, and install a pedestrian signal connecting the Powerhouse Visitors Center with Locomotive Park. These improvements will improve pedestrian visibility and will allow better access to these two Route 66 visitor destinations. $267,038 
CA Historic Route 66 Needles to Barstow Corridor Management Plan This project will create a corridor management plan for 153 miles of California Historic Route 66 from Needles to Barstow. $152,300
CA Route 1 Byway Bay Trail Extension and Bridge This project will complete project development and design for construction of a segment of the Byway Bay Trail pedestrian and bike path, including a bridge over Morro Creek and improvements to beach access from the byway. $220,000

CO Gold Belt Tour Scenic and Historic Byway High Park Road Safety Fencing This project will construct 10 miles of fencing to keep cattle off the roadway. The traffic on this route has increased 40% since designation of the byway and cattle in the roadway has been a significant safety issue. $65,600
CO Conservation and Development Planning along Colorado's Byways This project will produce development plans for three Colorado byways, perform conservation planning on eight byways, and develop materials that showcase the relationship between byways, land conservation, and economic development. The project will conserve private land and water resources that protect the visual, ecological, and economic integrity of the byway. $462,000

HI Hawaii Scenic Byways Statewide Signage and Wayfinding This project will design, manufacture and install directional and byway identification signage throughout its four state byways on Hawaii and Kauai islands. Signage will be located at entry, exit, and other beneficial points along the byway that will give travelers a safer means of navigating the roads. $78,000
IA Iowa Great River Road National Scenic Byway Signage This project will install 738 byway route guide and entrance signs along the 328-mile Iowa Great River Road, which will provide travelers with a reliable wayfinding system that uses the official graphic of the 10-State Great River Road. $346,160

ID Payette River Scenic Byway Rotary Park Rest Area Improvements This project will rehabilitate a rest area adjacent to the Payette River National Scenic Byway in McCall. The scope of work includes new accessible paths, storm water facilities, lighting, and paving. Amenities for users include access to public restrooms, beach, swimming area, playground, picnic area, recycling/trash bins, and bike path system, as well as beautiful mountain and lake views. $57,750

OH Heritage Corridors of Bath Ghent Wayside This project will construct a visitor wayside , including a gravel drive, parking area, bike rack, information kiosk, shelter, and restroom.
