Thank you for your interest in the Student Career Experience Program (formerly known as the Cooperative Education Program) with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) provides you with an opportunity to earn money and combine your academic study with on-the-job experience. It provides formal periods of work and study while you are attending school and requires a commitment by you, your school, and the FHWA. You may work in one of the following areas:
You may be employed year round and appointments may be made at any time during the year, including summer.
You may work full time or part time schedules. There are no limitations on the number of hours you can work per week. However, your work schedule should not interfere with your academic schedule.
Students in the program may be non-competitively converted to a career or career-conditional appointment when they have:
To be eligible for the SCEP, you must be:
Enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited college or university in an undergraduate or graduate degree program.
Taking at least a half-time academic course load. (The definition of half time is the definition provided by the school in which you are enrolled.)
A United States citizen.
