Initial plans were to build a new bridge to replace the deteriorating span that was erected in 1925. The result is a new bridge crossing in one of the most comprehensive park reconstruction partnerships in the state's history. The project provides for a safer pedestrian-level under-crossing, a new park entrance road, much needed parking lots, a visitor center, a safety rest area, a pedestrian bridge, and handicapped-accessible trails to the scenic Gooseberry Falls.
