Preliminary List of Topics to be Covered

CATEGORY 1 - Overview of Geophysical & NDT Methodologies: Ground penetrating radar, resistivity, self potential, cross borehole, surface waves, induced polarization, frequency domain EM, time domain EM, gravity, magnetics, seismic reflection, seismic refraction, thermal imagery, conventional borehole logging tools, imaging methods and a wide range of sonic measurements.

CATEGORY 2 - Engineering Applications for Planning, Design, Constructions and Maintenance of Transportation Facilities: Limitations of current practices and development of pro-active procedures for engineering projects. Complete site characterizations and compliment subsurface drilling programs. Identify and assess buried utilities. QA and QC for placement and compaction of soil, asphalt and Portland cement concrete. Access, repair and remediate pavements, bridge abutments, decks, and foundations, culverts, and retaining walls.

CATEGORY 3 - Problem Geologic and Environmental Conditions: Subsidence, collapse, compressible soils, organic soils (peat and muck), landfills, buried waste, contaminated soil deposits, obstructions, unknown conditions, undetected utilities, pseudo-karst features (underground mines, utilities and tunnels), sinkholes, caves, groundwater, perched water, soil and rock erosion, slope stability, liquefaction potential, earthquake ground motion prediction, bridge scour, archaeological and historical sites.

CATEGORY 4 - Geophysical Case Studies: Summaries of one or more geophysical methodologies as applied to transportation facilities or infrastructure.
