Field Trip: Floodplain Restoration of the Wisconsin River & Dam Removal on the Baraboo RiverJohn Laub of the Sand County Foundation and Fred Halfen of Ayres and Associates will present floodplain restoration of the Wisconsin River and Dam removal on the Baraboo River. The first stop on the field trip will be the floodplain restoration project on the Wisconsin River near Baraboo, Wisconsin. This project will address benefits, issues and concerns associated with reverting protected areas back to natural floodplains. In addition, the fieldtrip will also included the Baraboo River dam removal project. As a result of the removal of a number of dams, 120 miles of the river will be shallower, flow faster and expose rock characteristic of the area at the time when it was known as the Baraboo Rapids. |
