FHWA, AASHTO and the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) have undertaken a research project to accelerate the adoption of plug-in electric vehicles by defining an action plan for integrating these vehicles with the U.S. electrical grid nationwide. Three white papers have been developed as a result of the project including:
FHWA is supporting a "pooled fund program" initiative, led by the Washington State DOT, to assist State DOT's in collaborating and coordinating state funding efforts, model policies, and best practices related to the deployment of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. Eight states are participating in the initiative including Arizona, California, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Washington, and Wisconsin. To date, the effort has funded two peer-exchange workshops with representatives from participating states, and the development of a "Plug-In Vehicle (PEV) Action Tool" for State DOT's. The Action Tool helps states to understand the PEV market, the actions that can be taken on PEV's, and how those actions fit into the DOT mission.
More information on both the peer-exchange workshops and Action Tool can be found on the Center for Climate Change and Energy Solutions (C2ES) website.
