Climate Change Mitigation Peer Exchange Summary Report Available. FHWA has released a summary report of a series of recent climate change mitigation peer exchanges held between June 2011 and April 2012. The peer exchanges provided an opportunity for metropolitan planning organizations and State departments of transportation to discuss greenhouse gas analysis, incorporating greenhouse gas analysis in the planning process, and their climate change mitigation activities. The summary report provides an overview of the key themes, lessons learned, examples of innovative practices, and resources from the agencies who participated in the exchanges. (PDF 500 KB)
- On April 12th and 13th 2012, FHWA hosted a peer exchange in Chicago entitled "The Role of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) in Climate Change Mitigation." The peer exchange provided an opportunity for representatives from twelve MPOs from a range of metropolitan areas to discuss opportunities for mitigating climate change and analyzing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within their regions. - On November 3rd and 4th, 2011, FHWA hosted a peer exchange in St. Louis Missouri, entitled "The Role of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) in Climate Change Mitigation." The peer exchange was hosted by the East-West Gateway Council of Governments, and provided an opportunity for representatives from ten MPOs representing large metropolitan areas to discuss opportunities for mitigating climate change and analyzing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within their regions.
- On June 14th and 15th, 2011, FHWA hosted a peer exchange in Baltimore, Maryland, focused on "The Role of State DOTs in Climate Change Mitigation." The peer exchange provided an opportunity for representatives from eight state DOTs to discuss opportunities for mitigating climate change within their state DOTs and when managing their state transportation systems. This document summarizes the presentations, participant discussions, and cross-cutting themes from the peer exchange and notes additional resources available to state DOTs.

(March 2011) This report provides a summary of five workshops on addressing climate change in the State and metropolitan transportation planning processes that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) sponsored in 2010.
- In 2010, AASHTO sponsored climate change workshops, that covered both mitigation and adaptation issues, for 10 state DOTs: Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Missouri, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and West Virginia. In 2011, additional 7 workshops were conducted from April-July: Arizona, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Vermont. These 17 states were selected from 30 states that applied to AASHTO for a workshop.
