Wes Goff

For 38 years, Wes Goff has worked for CDOT and for the environment. Before there was a National Environmental Policy Act, Wes worked to minimize environmental impacts and restore and protect sensitive habitat as he helped build Colorado's transportation system. In the early days of interstate construction, Wes helped implement Colorado's first erosion control, re-vegetation, landscaping, and wetland protection efforts along Black Gore Creek through Vail Pass. In the late 60's, he designed and constructed a bridge over the Eagle River to allow wildlife passage and avoid impacts to wetland and riparian areas. In the early 70's, Wes was instrumental in the relocation and restoration of Ten-mile Creek during construction of I-70. In the 90's, Wes restored wetlands on SH 9 north of Silverthorne and restored a fen on Hoosier Creek at Kenosha Pass, which had been buried under tons of ash as a result of an historic charcoal making enterprise. His pioneering efforts in stream restoration and re-vegetation for high altitudes and steep slope stability have spanned three decades. In recent years, Wes has partnered with Douglas County to develop land preservation programs, establish connectivity in important wildlife corridors, develop recreation and public education opportunities, and create Colorado's first habitat mitigation bank. Currently a Program Engineer for CDOT Region 1, Wes continues to be a leader in building partnerships for environmental protection, and building transportation projects in a manner that protects and enhances the environment.
