This roadway reconstruction project is an example of the type of excellent historic preservation that can be accomplished through effective cooperation and coordination by community leaders and public employees. The reconstruction of East Main Street solved many serious functional needs of the community. The project promoted partnerships with various groups and established a project task force of State and local officials, citizens, and business owners who set goals and objectives for the reconstruction project. These included streetscape, roadway, utility, and pedestrian improvements. Many old trees along the street were saved, thereby preserving the character of Westminster's historic district, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
