This highway project provides an important link for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians to some of the State's largest tourist attractions. The Highway 23 project accomplished its goal of improving safety standards on 19.3 kilometers (12 miles) of highway while incorporating pathways for pedestrians, bicyclists, and horses. Extensive coordination occurred between State and local agencies and citizen's groups to minimize any impacts of construction to sensitive areas of natural beauty. The project has improved the liveability of the area, promoted economic growth, preserved the environment, and enhanced the highway system.
