Environmental Justice is becoming more widely understood by the transportation Planning community, and in the Civil Rights arena. FHWA has previously developed a number of case study examples of good EJ practice during the planning stages of project development, emphasizing the need for thorough public involvement.
EJ is important throughout the entire project development process. With that in mind, a number of additional case studies have been developed specifically focusing on EJ analysis during the environmental review process. There are 10 case studies, that were selected from an initial list of 30 potential candidates, and subsequently developed in some detail.
