Environmental Justice in NEPA Case Studies

These 10 case studies provide examples of best practices in doing EJ analysis during the environmental review process. They are from different parts of the country, and reflect widely varying situations.

Several of the case studies are small in scale. One involves a local neighborhood store, another proposes to close road access to a local downtown.

Some of the other case studies involve large areas, including a substantial part of the Seattle metro area, or the Dallas - Fort Worth region.

The case studies are organized in a consistent manner, to make comparisons easier to do. They are intended to provide NEPA practitioners with good examples of field practice. There are many lessons to be learned here - foremost among them the importance of ongoing outreach and involvement with the affected EJ community throughout the project development process.

For further information, references and contacts are provided at the end of each case study. The documents are also provided in PDF format for easy printing.

Note: Some of the graphics are scanned from other reports. In all cases, the best available graphic quality has been used.
