The DOT operating administrations are working to create and update tools and guidance on EJ, with a focus on ensuring consistency across the operating administrations. While programmatic differences can result in unique needs and challenges, unnecessary inconsistency between operating administrations creates needless burdens for project planners, particularly in multi-modal projects, as well as for communities seeking to participate in transportation planning and decisions.
The US DOT values the insights and experience of grantees, transportation planners, affected community members and other stakeholders, many of whom have participated directly in the work to implement EJ goals, or who have been affected by the EJ successes and shortfalls in transportation. As the US DOT reinvigorates the department's EJ implementation, the department is interested in public feedback and will incorporate that feedback into the final publications.
