Rules for Photo Opportunity 2001

Categories:

  1. Planted Native wildflowers/grasses: Limit to plantings of native species known to be native in your area.
  2. Planted Nonnative wildflowers: Include non-native or garden wildflowers introduced into an area. Photos of species known to be invasive will not be accepted.
  3. Protection: Show off preserved native remnant vegetation or endangered plants characteristic of your area.
  4. Public Awareness: Collect photos, brochures, whatever explains your public outreach effort.
  5. Close-up: Chose your best plant species close-ups.
  6. Vegetation Management: Send examples of woodland, wetland, or grassland restoration, erosion control with natives, reduced mowing results, landscaping, and integrated management methods on invasives.

Entry Format:

  • Send no more than 3 photos per category, or a total of 18 per State.
  • Each State may enter any one or all of the six categories.
  • Districts, organizations, or individuals may enter through their State Highway Agency.
  • Type a cover letter and the back-of-photo information for legibility, please.
  • Submit 8x10 photos. These photos become the property our vegetation files.
  • Provide a brief description on the back of each photo (date, location, goal and/or names of key plants, State name and category.
  • Protect in a plastic sleeve (for a 3 hole binder) when mailing.
  • Submissions are due on November 5, 2001.
  • Send to the Editor at FHWA, 175 East Fifth St. Room 500, St. Paul, MN 55101.
