Blackfoot Waterfowl Production Area

photo: wetlands with forest and mountains in background

The Blackfoot site on Montana State Route 200 near Ovando, encompasses over 1000 acres. It was established through the cooperative effort of The Nature Conservancy, Montana Department of Transportation (MDOT), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Federal Highway Administration, and the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks. The wetlands restoration added almost 100 acres of wetlands to the area. It was planned and built by Ducks Unlimited, with funding from MDOT for mitigation purposes. This area produces hundreds of wetland-dependent birds and mammals yearly, provides valuable upland habitat, and is open to the public for enjoyment, study, and recreation.
