Instructions for Using the Photo Database
When you CLICK HERE or on the FHWA logo above, the Microsoft® Access data base file, main.mdb, in the Database subdirectory is accessed. The data base does not contain the actual photos, but it does provide detailed information about all the photos, including barrier material, location, special features, etc. Use the data base to search for other photos with similar desired attributes, e.g., locating photos of barriers with a raked finish. NOTE: You must have Microsoft® Access 97 (or later version) on your computer to use the data base.
All the photographs contained in the FHWA Highway Noise Barrier Design package (Handbook, Video, and this CD-ROM) can be found on the CD-ROM in the Graphics subdirectory. It contains 3038 photographs and slides from State Transportation Agencies, acoustical consultants, and noise barrier manufacturers. Each photograph is stored as a .JPG file and can be located in the Graphics subdirectory by its Photo #.
