The FHWA is releasing the Federal Highway Administration Traffic Noise Model (FHWA TNM) Version 2.5, to make both acoustical and user improvements to the model. The Volpe Center is sending the distribution memorandum (copy attached) and a CD-ROM of the model directly to State DOTs; McTRANS is making the distribution to all other existing registered FHWA TNM users.
The FHWA TNM will be required for use in all new traffic noise analyses for Federal-aid highway projects that begin after October 14, 2004. A rulemaking for FHWA's noise regulation is forthcoming to replace the previous prediction model (FHWA Highway Traffic Noise Prediction Model contained in FHWA-RD-77-108) with the FHWA TNM. Questions and comments on this activity should be directed to Bob Armstrong (Robert.E.Armstrong@fhwa.dot.gov) at (202) 366-2073, Chris Corbisier (Chris.Corbisier@fhwa.dot.gov) at (202) 366-1473, or Mark Ferroni (Mark.Ferroni@fhwa.dot.gov) at (202) 366-3233, respectively.
