The purpose of this memorandum is to request your assistance in encouraging the division office staff with Transportation Enhancement (TE) responsibilities and the State DOT TE Program Managers, as appropriate, to attend "Building on Our Success: the 2005 TE Professionals Seminar," held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on July 26-27, 2005. This 2-day meeting of the division office and State TE program managers immediately precedes the TrailLink 2005 conference hosted by the Rails to Trails Conservancy and partially sponsored by FHWA.

The National Transportation Enhancements Clearinghouse (NTEC) is helping us organize the meeting. The NTEC already has been in contact with TE managers asking for agenda topics and volunteers to lead breakout sessions and to facilitate small group discussions. Meeting information is at www.enhancements.org, including travel and lodging, a registration form, and the preliminary agenda. The NTEC requests registrations by June 1.

The TrailLink 2005 conference also will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about trails, urban greenways, the health impact of trails, and other community benefits. More information is at www.railtrails.org/traillink2005.

I recognize the uncertainties regarding our travel budgets this year due to operating under extension legislation. We would appreciate your requesting your staff to contact their respective State TE manager to encourage his or her participation in these meetings. We have found this encouragement is helpful in increasing the number of individuals able to participate.

If you have questions about these meetings, please contact Christopher Douwes, Trails and Enhancements Program Manager, at christopher.douwes@dot.gov or 202-366-5013.
