Land & Water Conservation Fund Act (1965)

"The purposes of this Act are to assist in preserving, developing, and assuring accessibility... of outdoor recreation resources... for individual active participation in such recreation and to strengthen the health and vitality of the citizens."

Notes:

The LWCF Act of 1965 established a funding source for both Federal acquisition of park and recreation lands and matching grant program for state and local governments for recreation planning, acquisition and development with the purpose...

What strikes me most about this purpose is the last part referencing participation in recreation to strengthen the health and vitality of the citizens. While the context may have been somewhat different in 1965, the point is becoming more and more important today.
