Information ResourcesThe Federal Surface Transportation Program is amended every several years through multiyear authorization acts (for example ISTEA, TEA-21, and Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU). The current authorization is SAFETEA-LU for 2005-2009 and is the largest surface transportation investment totaling $244.1 billion. It authorizes federal surface transportation programs for highways, bridges, trails, safety, and transit projects. The potential for partnerships is huge. However, people may have difficulty locating the specific information they need because of the size and complexity of the program. The Forest Service (FS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) have jointly developed training videos to show how the various programs authorized within SAFETEA-LU can benefit public lands and their neighboring communities. We have called upon the nation's best subject matter experts to help sort out the various programs in the Federal Surface Transportation Program and provide the specific information that fits the work being done in the field. The information contained at the website can be viewed all at once or in sections http://www.fs.fed.us/eng/transp/safetea-lu/. It also has a resource module with additional information, website links, and contact information. To see a promotional trailer go to one of the following sites:

As one Ranger was saying in the film, “When people have access to public lands, they are given a chance to be awed and inspired by these lands, and in the end, to see value in their conservation and protection for future generations.”
