Photo of the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge (NWR)The Federal Lands Highway Program in Delaware. The U.S. Fish andWildlife Service in conjunction with Eastern Federal Lands is preparing a transportation study for the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge (NWR). Consisting of approximately 15,978 acres of actively managed land, Bombay Hook NWR is considered to be Delaware's most valuable wildlife habitat. The refuge has 12 miles of gravel roads, trails, numerous levees, culverts, spillways, and other facilities that all require periodic maintenance for reliable and safe use.

The purpose of this study is to identify transportation enhancements that will provide efficient mobility for visitors and staff members to and within the refuge. The transportation study will develop conceptual alternatives for the transportation network affecting the refuge, and will develop short and long-range (20-year) solutions. The study will evaluate the roads, parking areas, trails, and walkways within the refuge, as well as the entrances and all highways/roads providing access to the refuge.
