The Federal Lands Highway Program in New Jersey. Liberty State Park in Jersey City is connected to Ellis Island by a temporary construction access bridge. The 1,400-foot-long bridge to the island from New Jersey was erected for the restoration work in the 1980s on the island to prepare for the reopening of the main immigration center building as a museum. Eastern Federal Lands is repairing the existing steel "H-piles" that support the existing temporary construction access bridge. The work includes construction of temporary supports, pile cleaning, surface preparation, fabrication and installation of fiberglass reinforced plastic jackets, pumping of concrete, and removal of all temporary supports.
