Chickasaw National Recreation Area (NRA), a unit of the National Park System, is located approximately 90 miles south of Oklahoma City and 120 miles north of Dallas. Chickasaw NRA is one of the most heavily visited national parks of its size, with one and a half million visitors a year. Springs, streams and lakes are the attractions at Chickasaw NRA, the first national park in the state of Oklahoma. There are six campgrounds and 410 camping sites that allow visitors to view classic examples of Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) construction and to swim, boat, fish, hike, observe nature, hunt, camp, and picnic. There are about 28 miles of paved roads and over 12 miles of gravel roads within the NRA.

Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLHD) began working in Chickasaw NRA in the 1990s in partnership with the National Park Service. The projects included reconstruction of main routes and campground roads, utilities, new trailer dump stations, parking areas, subgrade stabilization, and drainage. The design and construction minimized impacts to the historic 1930s CCC structures and to the adjacent landscape. Nearly $9 million was spent on two projects in the Chickasaw NRA.
