West Virgnia State

A photo of Glade Creek Road. The Federal Lands Highway Program in West Virginia. Glade Creek Road is a state designated Back Way that provides access to campsites, a hiking trail, a stocked trout stream, and a boat launch on the New River, administered by the National Park Service as part of the New River Gorge National River. This segment of the New River has been described as desirable to those who have less experience with white water or those who have limited physical capabilities. Glade Creek Road was slated for improvements when heavy rainfall resulted in numerous slides along the roadway. The roadway was closed in 2003 for public safety.

Eastern Federal Lands opened a mile-long section of the road from its junction with WV 41 near Prince to the Grandview Sandbar campground and river access area in early 2007. The full length of the road is scheduled to reopen in mid- December. Repairs include the addition of mechanically stabilized earth wall, the reconditioning of 4.6 miles of aggregate road surface, drainage improvements, and the cleaning and painting of the bridge over Mill Creek.
