Nondestructive Testing Technologies for Concrete Bridge Decks (R06A)
The Selection Tool for Concrete Bridge Deck Assessment identifies nondestructive testing (NDT) techniques for rapid and accurate bridge deck condition assessment and performance monitoring. Nondestructive analyses can substantially expedite bridge deck performance investigations while, at the same time, improve assessment accuracy and reduce resource use, costs, and traffic delays during bridge renewal.
The Selection Tool focuses on four types of service-life defects common to bridge decks: rebar corrosion, delamination, vertical cracking, and concrete degradation. The tool provides specification, operation, and application information for specific NDT techniques, as well as comparative assessments based on accuracy, repeatability, speed, ease of use, and cost.
The Selection Tool is part of the NDToolbox, an online collection of the best technologies to identify deterioration of concrete bridge decks, ensure that construction materials meet quality-control standards, and assess the condition of pavements and tunnels.
This project is currently transitioning from research to implementation via the Round 4 Implementation Assistance Program. A full product page will be available early in 2014.
