ArrowFlorida DOT US-92 Pre-cast Concrete Pavement Systems Showcase

DeLand, FL
January 10, 2012

Precast concrete pavement systems (PCPS) are revolutionizing highway renewal and repair. Cast off-site and installed when traffic volume is low, precast concrete pavement panels reduce traffic congestion, make the construction process safer and increase durability.

Florida Department of Transportation will be the first to utilize precast concrete pavement as an “unbounded overlay”, which allows the existing pavement to remain in place, with little or no repair or surface preparation, and no need for demolition and disposal. The precast overlay is separated from the underlying old pavement by an asphalt interlayer, with the old pavement serving as a highly stable base. The asphalt interlayer will correct the crown in the old pavement so that water runs off to the outside of the roadway. The precast panels will be prestressed, and each 264-foot segment of panels will be post-tensioned longitudinally with tendons running through ducts in the panels.

This showcase will include a half-day technical workshop followed by a site visit of the project.

Workshop Details:

This one-day workshop will begin on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 8:00am with check-in and registration opening at 7:30am. We will have a ½ day of technical session on the technologies and the project, followed by a visit to the active construction site. We will then return to the hotel for a Q&A Session and adjourn at 4:00pm.
