Indiana's Historic Bridge Program
Public Involvement Activities Completed

JANUARY 2003
- FHWA presented the concept of a historic bridge programmatic agreement at the County Bridge Conference.
SPRING 2003
- LTAP sent letters to County Historians, County Commissioners, and INDOT district directors and asked them to identify structures that may have historic significance.
SEPTEMBER 2003
- FHWA published a website for the development of the bridge programmatic agreement.
- FHWA mailed letters to about 250 preservation organizations based on a distribution list provided by Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana (HLFI).
- FHWA provided newsletter article to HLFI for distribution via their newsforum/e-mail groups.
- FHWA provided newsletter article to Indiana Department of Natural Resources-Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology (IDNR-DHPA) for publication in the next Preserving Indiana newsletter (Spring/Summer '04). FHWA will re-coordinate closer to publication date and make changes or updates as necessary.
- FHWA provided newsletter article to IACHES for publication in their next newsletter, November 2003. IACHES will also post the newsletter on their website.
OCTOBER 2003
- FHWA gave a bridge program presentation to the Indiana Association of Regional Council (IARC) on October 9, 2003 and distributed brochures to the members. IARC requested FHWA return once INDOT's consultant is farther along in the survey process (about 6 months).
- FHWA provided brochures describing historic bridge program development process for the annual O'Brien Preservation Conference. IDNR-DHPA will make mention of the historic bridge program development during the conference.
