Finding and Selecting Structures

Most transportation agencies have inventories with thousands of structures.

In this lesson, you will learn how to find a particular structure and select a subset of structures with which to work.

Finding a Particular Structure

Find a particular structure.

  1. In the Inspection module, click Find. The Find Structures window will appear.
  2. Click Clear Criteria. The screen will be refreshed.
  3. In the Feature Intersected field, enter RECORD.
  4. Click the Feature Intersected button until it says Contains.
  5. Click Find Records Based on Current Criteria. A list of structures meeting the current criteria will appear.
  6. Click on structure 3365N002.
  7. Click Open Past to display the existing inspections for the selected structure.
  8. Close the Bridge Inspection Module window.
  9. Similar methods are used in the Inspection, Project Planning and Gateway modules, with some module-specific differences. In the Gateway module, click Find. The Find Structures window will appear.
  10. Click Clear Criteria and click Find Records Based on Current Criteria. The screen will be refreshed.
  11. In the Feature Intersected field, enter RECORD.
  12. Click the Feature Intersected button until it says Contains.
  13. Click Find Records Based on Current Criteria. A list of structures meeting the current criteria will appear.
  14. Click on structure 3365N002. Note that in the Gateway module, the Actions buttons are now Export and Check-Out.
  15. Click Cancel.
Selecting a Group of Structures

Select a group of structures.

  1. In the Gateway module, click the Select button. The Select Structures window will appear.
  2. Click Clear Selection.
  3. Click the Past due radio button.
  4. Click the Count button to see how many structure records will be returned.
  5. Click OK. Structure records with past due inspection dates are returned.
Using the Filter Feature

You can also find and select a group of bridges on the Structure List by using the Filter feature.

  1. In the Gateway module, right-click in the Structures List and select Filter.
  2. From the Dist row, in the Relation column, select Not =.
  3. Double-click in the Dist row, Filter Value column cell.
  4. Select North District, and then click Close.
  5. Click Apply Filter. The structure list has been filtered by removing the structures in the North District from the structure list.
