Running Performance Targeting in the Long-Term Preservation Model

Performance targeting in the long-term preservation optimization model allows the user to specify health index as a constraint in the existing long-term model.  Users can calculate the minimum annual cost for preserving element categories for selected bridges at a specified minimum health index.

In this lesson, you will learn how to run a health index performance targeting analysis for all bridges in the database.

Run a Health Index Performance Targeting Analysis

To run a health index performance targeting analysis:

  1. In the Preservation module, click HI Target. The Optimal Health Index Target Analysis window will appear.
  2. In the Name field, enter HI Target Test. Check the Launch Viewer After Optimization check box. Click the All Bridges in DataBase radio button. Click the Equality (HI=Target) radio button.
  3. Click the Optimize button. You will be prompted to continue with the Health Index Target Analysis.
  4. Click OK.
  5. When the Long-Term Performance Targeting window appears, click OK.
  6. From the Optimization Analysis drop-down list, select HI Target Test. Click on Targets and Graphs radio buttons to view results.
  7. Click on the Targets radio button. Click on the By Category radio button. Click and drag the slider to adjust the Health Index Target for the Superstructure element category. The Health Index Target and the Annual Long-Term Cost values change as you move the slider.
  8. Click on the Graphs radio button. From the Element Category drop-down list, select Superstructure. The graph displays the results for the selected element category.

In this lesson, you ran a health index performance targeting analysis for all bridges and viewed results.
