Running a Program Simulation

The simulation will apply preservation and improvement models to a network of structures to identify and rank recommended work candidates, and then identify programmable work that can be accomplished within the constrained budget.

In this lesson, you will learn to set basic controlling parameters to run a simulation scenario.

Run a Program Simulation
  1. In the Programming module, check that the Default scenario is selected from the Scenario drop-down list.
  2. Enter the following values for the simulation time frame:
    • For First Sim Yr, enter 2003.
    • For First Project Yr, enter 2003.
    • For Sim Duration (Yrs), enter 5.
  3. Select the default sets for each of the Simulation Parameters drop-downs - except for Cost, which should be set at Training Sample.
  4. Select the default sets for the Simulation Rules.
  5. Enter the following values for Thresholds:
    • For Minimum Project Cost, enter 7500.
    • For Minimum Action Cost, enter 300.
    • For Paint Rule, select Use Both Thresholds.
    • For Deferment (Yrs), enter 0.
  6. Uncheck the Prohibit All Replacement checkbox.
  7. Enter 70 percent for the Cumulative Cost Threshold.
  8. From the Project Types to Include drop-down, select All Projects.
  9. From the Needs to Address drop-down, select MRR & Functional Needs.
  10. From the Needs Growth drop-down, select Grow All Needs.
  11. Uncheck the Store bridge-level results checkbox.
  12. Click Save, then click Run. The Select Bridges window will appear.
  13. Click the All Bridges in DataBase radio button, then click OK.
  14. In the confirmation window, click OK to run the program simulation.
  15. The simulation may take several minutes. When complete, click OK to confirm.
  16. Click Yes to save results to the database.

In this lesson, you learned to set basic controlling parameters to run a simulation scenario.
