Innovation Bridge Monitoring
Award Fiscal Year 2015
Project Aspect Infrastructure Management
Description

The New Hampshire DOT (NHDOT) intends to create a benchmark example of a self-diagnosing, self-reporting, smart infrastructure at the Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth, NH. The NHDOT will use the bridge monitoring technology to provide information for operational management and compile a variety of data to inform decisions with regard to this bridge.

The NHDOT manages two bridges with active structural monitoring programs and a traffic management monitoring program dispersed throughout the state. This project will be the first case where structural, traffic, and environmental monitoring programs will be integrated. The results will be used to validate future bridge design innovations and traffic pattern predictions, and to measure the environmental impact on the estuarine environment.
