Subject: DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION ORGANIZATION MANUAL
FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION - CHANGE

  1. PURPOSE. To issue revised pages to the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) section of the Department of Transportation Organization Manual.

  2. EXPLANATION OF CHANGES. With the passage of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), the FHWA’s Office of the Associate Administrator for Safety has initiated a new method for focusing on highway safety problems and solutions. The purpose of this change is to internally restructure the Office of Safety to better implement several new safety-focused programs and increased funding levels contained in SAFETEA-LU, as well as to address increased efforts to engage external partners and stakeholders in program planning and delivery.

    1. Minor changes and shifts have also been made to the mission and functions of the three existing Office-level organizations to better reflect current highway safety program priorities, better align related functions and activities, better reflect new programs included in SAFETEA-LU, and improve overall efficiency in delivery of products and services. Additionally, the Office of Program Integration and Delivery is retitled as the Office of Safety Integration.
    2. Minor editorial changes have also been made to a number of sections. A vertical change line in the manual's margin indicates a section has been added, revised or changed.
  3. FILING INSTRUCTIONS.
