PAGE CHANGE

PURPOSE. To issue revised pages to the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) section of the Department of Transportation Organization Manual.

EXPLANATION OF CHANGES. This change realigns functions within the Office of Safety (HSA) to create a more streamlined structure to better reflect its two core missions-the administration and stewardship of the Safety programs, and the expertise and leadership in advancing safety technology and innovation. Under this structure there will be two offices, the Office of Safety Technologies and the Office of Safety Programs. The more substantive changes include the following:

1. The Office of Safety Design (OSSD) is abolished and the Office of Safety Integration (OSSI is restructured and renamed the Office of Safety Technologies. The OSSD and OSSI functions are transferred to the Office of Safety Technologies and the Office of Safety Programs.

2. The Office of Safety Technologies has responsibility for highway designs and technologies that improve safety performance.

3. The Office of Safety Programs has responsibility for comprehensive Federal and State highway safety programs and activities that improve safety for all road users.

4. The FHWA and HSA organization charts, and the appropriate HSA offices' mission and function statements, are revised to reflect these changes. In addition, minor editorial changes were made to the HSA mission and function statements.
