1. PURPOSE. To issue revised pages to the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) section of the Department of Transportation Organization Manual.
   
   
2. EXPLANATION OF CHANGES. The Secretary approved the establishment of the Safety Core Business Unit (CBU) on February 22, 2000. This document establishes three offices under the Safety CBU, i.e., the Office of Safety Design, Office of Safety Programs, and Office of Program Integration and Delivery. The Manual is revised to add the mission and functions statements for the three offices, and FHWA's organization chart is revised accordingly.
   
   
   1. Office of Safety Design - administers programs and promotes practices relating to the development and incorporation of road and roadside features that impact highway safety performance.
      
      
   2. Office of Safety Programs - develops and manages programs for the safe operation of roadways, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and at intermodal connections.
      
      
   3. Office of Program Integration and Delivery - provides strategic direction for surface transportation programs administered by FHWA, ensures that safety policies and programs are integrated with other FHWA and DOT policies and initiatives, and manages and promotes a program to leverage technology and innovation in the support of FHWA safety objectives.
