The Major Projects Engineer (MPE) represents the Federal Highway Administration on all North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA) projects and on North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) projects expected to exceed $500 million. In partnership with the NCDOT and NCTA, the MPE provides guidance and direction beginning with environmental coordination and continuing through right-of-way acquisition, design, and construction phases of a project. The MPE also assists agencies in the development of financial and project management plans required for Major Projects under SAFETEA-LU. Like the Operations Section, the MPE's focus is on the project-specific issues related to delivery of the Federal-aid program as set forth in the stewardship plan. The MPE provides guidance and oversight of Federal-aid projects. The MPE's responsibility is to deliver the major Federal-aid projects in a quality manner that fulfills our stewardship requirements and partnership agreements. The MPE works with other members of the Division office to review major projects in a manner in which full consideration is given to issues related to the human and natural environment during the project development process.
