On April 1, 1967, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) was established as one of the operating administrations of the Department of Transportation, which was created by Public Law 89-670, approved October 15, 1966. Representing the Federal interest in the Nation's highway transportation system, today the components of the FHWA include the Office of Motor Carrier.
