OHIO DIVISION OFFICE |
First and foremost, the number one factor for our success is the Ohio Division's employees. Without our staff, we could not successfully administer and implement the Federal-aid Program (FAP). We have a highly skilled, professional staff that works closely with our many partners and customers. In doing so, our desire is to be the "partner of choice" in Ohio. We consider ourselves to be a "free" consultant to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), County Engineers Association of Ohio (CEAO), and others in implementing the FAP. We constantly strive to "add value" in everything we do and touch — this is the reason we're in existence. A strong customer focus is very important to our Division. We provide a valuable service in a number of areas, including technology deployment; technical assistance; negotiating/coordinating with the numerous Federal resource agencies to keep projects on-schedule and on-budget; establishing performance measures in various program areas and for individual employees for improved accountability; providing strategic direction to our partners in line with the agency's Strategic Implementation Plan; Interpreting national policies, regulations, and laws; program delivery and oversight, and many others.
Located in Columbus, Ohio, the FHWA Ohio Division Office coordinates closely with the ODOT in the administration of the Federal-aid Highway Program. Other key partners include Ohio's 17 MPOs; local public agencies; federal, state, and local resource agencies; Ohio colleges and universities that conduct transportation research; and organizations that represent the transportation industry. With our partners, we predominantly focus on issues related to project, program, and process improvements. We also provide oversight and technical assistance during the development and construction of transportation projects. Our ultimate customer is the traveling public.
Comprised of 34 employees with diverse educational and professional experience, the Ohio Division is organized into the following three offices:
In addition to the Division Administrator, this office houses the program managers responsible for Civil Rights, Quality Program, and Information Technology. It also includes the Financial Management Team, which is responsible for the following: Federal-aid financial management; innovative finance; and internal budgeting and business operations. In addition, it includes the Administrative Services Team, which is responsible for the efficiency of the internal operations.
This office's primary responsibilities include issuing project eligibility determinations; processing project-level environmental documents; and providing oversight on the design and construction of larger, more complex projects. In addition, this section is responsible for program areas related to project development/ design, construction, maintenance, and materials. Other responsibilities include asset management, pavements, bridges/structures (including geotechnical issues), and technology transfer.
This office is comprised of an Office Director and four Teams: Planning, Environment, Right-of-Way, and Mobility and Safety. It is responsible for administering the areas of statewide and metropolitan planning, transportation air quality, environment, research, right-of-way, mobility and traffic operations, intelligent transportation systems, and highway safety.
