Figure 2: Travel on U.S. highways by month. This image is a line graph which compares monthly travel on rural highways and urban highways. Travel on urban highways fluctuated between 4.09 billion miles in January and 4.40 billion miles in December 2000. Travel on rural highways fluctuated between a low of 2.67 billion miles (January 2000) and a high of 3.32 billion miles in July 2001, for the period covering December 1999 and through December 2001.
