Figure 2: Travel on U.S. highways by month. This image is a line graph which compares monthly travel on rural highways and urban highways. Travel on urban highways fluctuated between 4.41 billion miles in January and 4.40 billion miles in December 2000. In 2000, travel on rural highways fluctuated between a low of 2.72 billion miles in January and a high of 3.29 billion miles in July. In 2001, travel on rural highways fluctuated between a low of 2.65 billion miles in January and a high of 3.32 billion miles in July. The fluctuation periods in travel for rural highways cover December 1999 through December 2001.
